Skin Structure, Growth and Nutrition

The skin is an organ that affords the outer protective packaging for all the body parts. It is the largest organ in the body. It is a waterproof, sealed and flexible barricade between the environment and internal organs. It keeps the interior environment of our body stable. The skin is divided into 3 layers, the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous coating. Blood supplies nutrients or molecules from food such as protein, carbohydrates, and fats to the skin. The nutrients are required for cell life, repair of hair, skin and nails, and growth

  • Epidermis: the outer barrier
  • Dermis: the inner support
  • Challenges faced by healthy skin
